Admiral Car Insurance @ www.admiral.com

Admiral Car InsuranceThe Admiral Group operates through the main Admiral arm (@ www.admiral.com) and then they have other established brands including Bell, Diamond and Elephant, as well as Confused.com. The Group is the 4th largest insurer in the UK. They have only been active since 1993, but this hasn’t stopped this Welsh business from thriving. Through their local and overseas projects they have racked up 4 million customers. Some people may wonder whether they are a broker or direct insurer since for underwriting they did reference using: “A consortium of insurers led by Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) Plc”. They do underwrite, but Munich Re take a share, covering 40% their UK business. Update: They now head “A Consortium of insurers led by Admiral Insurance (Gibraltar) Ltd”.

There are 3 motor options that includes standard (single), MultiCar and LittleBox (telematics). The trio holds 3 star Defaqto ratings that I’m sure they’ll hope to improve moving forward. They tend to stick with more generic features such as a courtesy car and windscreen repair. The addition of European cover is a nice bonus though. Since launch they have managed to sell over 11 million policies. On the pricing side it is stated that customers could pay as little as £180. This is likely the headed to edge out their rival Aviva who notes from £185. Through past comparison testing, we didn’t tend to spot their main policy listed, but LittleBox scored well. Diamond and Elephant were less impressive.

Their ownership of Confused.com may be perceived as being unfair for competition purposes. They do make it clear though that they are a separate business (under Inspop.com Ltd) and that they pride themselves on being impartial. Confused has been the smallest of the 4 major comparison sites, but they are still very popular as evident from their local Alexa ranking that sits close to 800. Their competitors approx rankings are: MoneySuperMarket (300), Compare the Market (500) and GoCompare (670). In regards to the other products, MultiCar that receives a lot of coverage in their TV ads can grant a possible saving of £343 (approx 10%). With LittleBox, the same share saved close to 25%.

An Admiral car insurance login is in place at www.admiral.com. Their customer support team is reachable 7 days a week. Their listed times are Monday to Friday (8am/8pm), Saturday (9am/5pm) and Sunday (9.30am/4pm). The phone number for single policies is 0333 220 2000 whilst you’ll need to ring 0333 220 2001 if you are on MultiCar. Of the many brands across the Group, this central insurer would be the ideal choice of the pack with slightly better value expected here. If you are a younger driver then it would be worth seeing how their telematics quotes way up for you on comparison searches. These will be shown for both Bell and LittleBox.
